Cheese for the Weekend is having a wee break, while we bring back The Christmas Cheeseboard of Fame!

It's Territorials Week, with two classic British cheeses going head to head to win your vote.

@applebyscheese (bottom) is one of the last traditional Farmhouse Cheshire makers. With a history going back (possibly!) as far as the Doomsday Book, Cheshire has a dense but friable texture and a minerally, grassy, lactic flavour.

@trethowanbrothers Gorwydd Caerphilly is a brilliant example of an iconic cheese. Originally from the Welsh valleys, Caerphilly (or Caerphilli) moved to Somerset with miners, who were following work. Characterised by a more gentle, milky sweetness, the flavours change to an earthiness close to the velvety rind.

Serve them up with @fromdorset Apple & Cider Chutney and @paxtonscheese Cornish Buttermilk Biscuits and cast your vote in the comments!

Also: the prettiest cheese in existence? Alp Blossom is a gentle Alpine style, with a slightly soft texture and lovely sweet tanginess, but it's all about the flowers, really. Fully edible, the cornflower, lavender, marjoram, lovage and chervil pressed into the rind add fragrance and complexity to the cheese.

A mostly South West Cheese for the Weekend Board this week:

@felthamsfarm Rebel Nun is, I'm assured, tasting amazing at the moment. (When the cheesemaker tells you they're scoffing them every day for lunch, you know they're going to be a bit special!)

@quickescheese Vintage Cheddar. At 2 years old, this classic begins to pick up fruity flavours and an almost mustard-edge close to the rind.

@somersetcheesecompany Pennard Ridge. I know this was on last week's board, but when it comes in tasting this good, I just can't help it.

@dorsetbluevinny. Crumbly, punchy and very 'Vinny' at the moment!

@jumicheese Crème Chevre. Our one trip out of the West Country this week, for quite possibly the most lusciously unctuous little goat's cheese I've ever tasted. When they're in, they don't last for long!

@globalharvest Fig Fruits for Cheese is a winner with softer cheeses, but surprisingly good with the punchier flavours too.

@paxtonscheese Cracked Black Pepper Cracker Bakes are loaded with warming pepper - just the ticket in colder weather!
